The Jackass gang is legendary. But, arguably, the most famous of the whole crew is Johnny Knoxville. Not only has he made his name doing absolutely insane stunts with Jackass, but he also transitioned into mainstream acting and even co-owns a production company.

So, I decided to take a look at Johnny Knoxville’s net worth. But I’m not going to stop there. I’ll also take a peek into his early life, his career, and his legacy as it stands so far. So hold onto your hat and cover your nuts; here comes the bizarre story of Johnny Knoxville.

Jackass Superstar Johnny Knoxville Net Worth

The Jackass boys are all doing pretty well for themselves. After years of basically torture, (sometimes self-) mutilation, and good old-fashioned insanity, they’ve raked in some big bucks. That said, Johnny Knoxville is far and away the Jackass with the biggest bank account. Johnny Knoxville’s estimated net worth is 50 million dollars.

But, in case you think all that money came from riding rockets, jumping dirt bikes, and wrestling anacondas (yes, he’s done all that and much more), there’s more to this man than mere mania.

Jackass Superstar Johnny Knoxville Net Worth

Without question…

Much of Johnny Knoxville’s fortune has come from the Jackass series. But he also co-owns Dickhouse Productions together with Spike Jonze and Mike Tremaine, both makers of the Jackass series and films. This production company has released several movies and has more on the way.

Knoxville also has an extensive acting career. He has starred, co-starred, and appeared in dozens of films. That hasn’t hurt his bank account, either. He’s been involved with WWE wrestling, appearing as a competitor and a guest. And as a celebrity, he has made countless TV appearances on reality and talk shows. All of these are paid, by the way.

It’s estimated that he takes in an average of 8 million dollars per year…

However, this can vary depending on the projects he’s involved in – some years are going to be way more profitable than others. For example, he was paid $5 million just for his one role in the 2004 movie Walking Tall starring The Rock. But, he was paid just a fraction of that for his role in A Dirty Shame the same year – the entire movie didn’t even gross $5 million.

So what has he done with his fortune? Knoxville continues to produce films and act, with some projects winning and some losing money. He owns properties in both L.A. and in his home state of Tennessee. And, as a fast-living, wealthy superstar, he owns a pretty impressive car collection, including a Porsche, Aston Martin, Jaguar, and more shiny automobiles.

Childhood and Schooling

Knoxville was born on March 11, 1971, so he’s 52 years old now, and he’s a Pisces. You knew it, right? However, Johnny Knoxville is, surprisingly, not this celeb’s real name. He was born Philip John Clapp. Because his father was also named Philip, he took on his middle name and has always been known as John or Johnny.

So where did “Knoxville” come from?

Taking a cue from WWII nicknames when people were named after their hometown or state, Clapp took on the name Johnny Knoxville as his professional name. He was born and raised in Knoxville and attended South Yong High School there.

Childhood and Schooling

As a youth, Knoxville played baseball and was a pretty skilled pitcher, winning a place on the Knoxville All-Star team. However, he caught the acting bug early and always wanted this to be his job. He graduated from high school in 1989 and moved to Los Angeles to study acting and begin his career.

Career

Before the Jackass superstar Johnny Knoxville net worth number reached its current heights, he started as a young and hard-working actor on the L.A. scene. In his early years, he appeared as an extra in films and TV and also shot some commercials. But he didn’t ever really get a big break.

Not for his acting, anyway…

In 1998, after nearly ten years of hustling, Johnny Knoxville’s career took an unexpected turn. Frustrated with his inability to break into serious acting, Knoxville started doing some, er, alternative work. He sent some footage to the notorious skateboard magazine Big Brother who used it in their 1998 video Number Two.

The magazine was already known for pranks and stunts. But Knoxville’s video testing pepper spray and tasers on himself was like nothing anyone had ever seen before. It was funny, edgy, and clearly dangerous. And, people loved it! This footage was combined with other scenes from Bam Margera’s CKY videos, and Jackass was born.

Jackass

The Jackass franchise began as a show on MTV which ran for just three short seasons in 2000 and 2001. But it was epic, and people wanted more. This led to the creation of Jackass: The Movie. This 2002 feature was directed by Jeff Tremaine. It featured Knoxville as the creator of many of the stunts as well as the performer of many of the sickest ones.

The movie was a massive hit and also grossed $60 million, helping Knoxville and the crew to become instantly wealthy. After that came 2006’s Jackass 2 and 2010’s Jackass 3D, both of which were highly anticipated films that did extremely well at the box office.

Jackass

Jackass Forever, aka Jackass 4, was delayed because of the COVID-19 epidemic but eventually came out in 2022. Johnny Knoxville claims that this reunion movie will be his last work with the Jackass franchise. However, with his love, nay, obsession with performing wild and wacky stunts, who can say?

Other Films

Other than the famed Jackass show and movies, Knoxville has still been very busy as an actor. In 2013, between Jackass projects, Knoxville starred in a feature film that was a sort of marriage between Jackass stunts and a proper comedic film. This was, of course, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.

Knoxville plays a grandfather character that he developed in the Jackass franchise, performing the whole film in heavy make-up as a bad grandpa trying to reunite his grandson with his father. The film was even nominated for an Academy Award for his make-up disguise.

Knoxville has also appeared in dozens of movies, in roles big and small…

Some of Johnny Knoxville’s acting highlights include playing an alien in 2002’s Men In Black II, a police deputy in 2004’s Walking Tall, and Luke Duke in 2005’s Dukes of Hazard.

In 2005, he took on what has been one of his most involved roles ever in The Ringer. Here, he starred in the sort of rom-com-action film as a man trying to cheat in the Special Olympics, essentially playing two different characters. This role showed the world that aside from being a fearless stuntman, he is also a truly talented actor who can do comedy and serious, even romantic roles.

But action is still where he shines the most…

Knoxville worked side-by-side with the legendary Jackie Chan in 2016’s Skiptrace, an action-packed buddy cop film. And if you want legends, he co-starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2013’s The Last Stand. So, while it took him a while to get his foot in the door, becoming a stuntman helped him create his big break and broke him into mainstream acting, his goal from the beginning.

Wrestling

If you’re already used to flinging yourself at impossible tasks, risking life and limb in the process, you might as well take up wrestling. This is what the Jackass crew seems to have thought, anyway, when they began to associate with WWE in 2008.

Knoxville appeared as a guest on WWE’s Raw in 2008 and again in 2010. After being away for over a decade, he returned to the ring to create a feud with Sami Zayn. They met in the Royal Rumble and again in Wrestlemania 38, where Knoxville defeated Zayn with the help of his crew.

Production

As co-owner of Dickhouse Productions, Knoxville has been active in producing several films. This company put out The Birth of Big Air in 2010, which is a documentary about BMX rider Matt Hoffman. In the same year, they also released a documentary about the White family called The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia.

In 2014, Knoxville created another production company called Hello Junior and has worked in conjunction with Paramount Pictures on several projects.

Family Life

Johnny Knoxville is Philip John Clapp. That’s his legal name, though he’ll always be Johnny Knoxville to his fans. But, when he married and had children, he used his legal name, of course.

Knoxville, as Clapp, first got married in 1995. He got married to Melanie Lynn Cates, and they had a child together, his daughter Madison Clapp born in 1996. The couple separated in 2008 and were officially divorced in 2009.

While he was separated from Melanie, he began dating Naomi Nelson, and in 2009 the couple had their first child. This was Knoxville’s son, Rocko Akira Clapp. He married Nelson in 2010, and then in 2011, they had a daughter together, Arlo Clapp. The couple seems to have split up recently, however, with Knoxville filing for divorce in 2022.

Health

If you think that the Jackass superstar Johnny Knoxville net worth number is massive, you might want to consider his medical bills. Sure, they don’t add up to $50 million, but I bet they’re still a pretty astounding amount. After all, he has been injured pretty badly over the years, even though he has miraculously avoided numerous other injuries.

In 2008’s tribute film Jackass Presents: Matt Hoffman’s Tribute to Evel Knievel, Knoxville tried doing a back flip on a motorcycle he didn’t know how to ride. He crashed badly and broke the handlebars of the bike with his groin, tearing his urethra in the process. He had to catheterize himself daily for three years to get over this injury.

While filming Action Point in 2018, Knoxville slid down a steep slope and landed on his face. This shattered his left orbital bone (aka eye socket), and for the rest of the movie, they had to film him from only his right. He only knew how bad the injury was when he blew his nose later, and his left eyeball popped out. Just a normal day at the office of Johnny, I guess?

Knoxville has sprained and broken his ankles multiple times…

He has broken bones all over and spent serious time recuperating in the hospital and at home. But his worst injuries have been to the head. He estimates that he has had 16 concussions, which is far over what is considered even remotely safe for a human. One of the worst was after boxing Butterbean for the first Jackass movie.

However, Johnny Knoxville’s worst injury of all was being mauled by a charging bull in the filming of 2022’s Jackass Forever. The star flew up in the air and came down hard, breaking his wrist and a rib in the process. The resulting concussion and brain hemorrhage was the worst, and hopefully last, major injury of his career.

Legacy

As a stuntman, Johnny Knoxville is legendary. He was in love with doing stunts and seemed to approach anything, from charging bulls to exploding rockets, without a hint of fear. Then again, it could have been all those concussions.

Knoxville was known as one of the wildest of the Jackass crew, signing up to do the stunts that no one else would dare to do. He inspired a whole generation of aspiring stunt people and backyard wrestlers, though sometimes leading them to really hurt themselves.

Those warning labels are there for a reason…

He also created many pranks and stunts, choreographing and scripting big parts of the Jackass show and movies. These days, pretty much anything with the name “Johnny Knoxville” on it is something that people are going to want to watch.

Because he’s a legend in the stunt world, this star is now able to command big roles in more standard movies. So, we should expect to continue seeing him in diverse roles in the future.

Jackass Superstar Johnny Knoxville Net Worth Exposed

Would you ever guess that a wild stuntman like Johnny Knoxville would be worth $50 million? Neither did I. But we have to remember just how immensely popular the Jackass franchise was through the 2000s. And its legend continues today.

Combining his Jackass career with production and also more-standard acting credits, it’s easy enough to see why Johnny Knoxville is rich. But, now that he’s older and officially retired from stunts, we’ll have to see if his acting continues to bring him the renown, and cash, that stunting did in the past.

Until next time, may you find your success, hopefully, without having to go through any head injuries.
